Introducing Limo
Limo was founded in 2021 by 4 young international team members. It all started with the passion to improve the quality of landscape and environment surrounding the greenhouses in The Netherlands. Later on, it grew into a concrete product that creates value for everyone in the horticulture ecosystem.
At the end of 2021 Limo took part in the Hackathon for Good The Hague #4, where they won Water & Circular Greenhouse Economy challenge from Greenport West-Holland. Back then they solved a challenge dedicated to helping greenhouses growers to get insights and be involved in the relationship between their production and their local environment's biodiversity. Limo made local data easy to access and understand at all times by greenhouse growers.
Additionally Limo won a bonus prize for the inspiring use of the data tools to solve UN SDGs from the Hackathon for Good partner ESRI. These first victories gave them an inspiration to move forward and continue developing their idea by joining the 12-month Basecamp programme.
Meet the Limo team
Today, the Limo team consists of three core members.
- Tirth as a CTO who is an experienced computer scientist and a gaming enthusiast
- Shravan as a CMO who is an urban planner at his heart
- Nirali as a designer/software architect and a music lover
Solution
There is a global problem that also exists in The Netherlands related to horticulture. The greenhouse ecosystem (growers, policymakers and other stakeholders) would like to have the information on water quality and its effect on biodiversity in the region of Greenport concisely and simply that they can share with peers and authorities.
Limo is developing an all-in-one platform for sustainable farming and horticulture practices for policymakers, government, authorities, growers, farmers, environmentalists, conservationists, consumers and the general public. All of them can make informed decisions for the food which is grown and its impact on the environment.
There are two main goals. The first one is to improve the quality of water and biodiversity around farms and greenhouses (agricultural areas). The second goal is to convert data to information that is correct, concise and easily accessible.
Limo’s ambitions include minimizing food wastage, improving the environment around farms and greenhouses and being market leaders in agricultural environmental quality monitoring focusing outside the four corners of a greenhouse or a farm.
In the future Limo plans to scale up their AI/ML-driven product which helps get the right information for farmers, growers, policymakers and other stakeholders in the horticulture community. The ambition is to validate the product in The Netherlands (Europe) and expand globally.
UN SDGs
3 - Good Health and Well Being
6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
12 - Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
13 - Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
15 - Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
17 - Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
About Basecamp programme
Basecamp is a 12-month support program for purpose driven startups in the exploration phase. During these 12 months a startup gets complete support in all the needs from problem definition to validation to MVP. Basecamp is divided into three stages, depending on the level of the startup they can go through all of them or continue where they have stopped.
Basecamp stages
1. Problem Definition & Validation: Analyze the challenge you want to solve and validate it.
2. Potential validation: Research the impact your solution will have.
3. Solution prototype: Understand your customer and create a minimum viable product.
During Basecamp, startups get personal mentors that help them on their way as well as tailored co-creation sessions, where together with experts, they work on certain topics. One of the examples is a stakeholder’s session. Altogether we identified the main stakeholders, we grouped stakeholders into several categories: problem owners, customers, influencers, competitors, enablers, and others for further prioritisation by power and interest. Looking at today's challenges, we noted down current needs, then prioritised them and identified who can help with those needs and who can connect to people that can help.
There are many more sessions and explorations ahead and we are excited to share with you Limo’s path on becoming a successful startup. Follow the updates on our social media channels.
